Throughout his 40 plus year career in the sports television industry, Raymond Smaltz has honed his skills across the globe producing and directing professional, collegiate and amateur athletic contests for a multitude of broadcast and cable networks, as well as for pay-per-view events. One of his professional highlights includes a near 20 year run of producing professional football for the NFL on FOX, including the coordination and production of 3 nationally televised World Bowls overseas for NFLEurope.
Raymond’s experience branches into numerous combat sports such as mixed martial arts leagues including Affliction, EliteXC, Strikeforce and the Professional Fighters League (PFL). But his involvement with professional boxing spans the entire length of his broadcast career, including networks such as ABC, CBS, NBC, DAZN, EpixHD, ESPN, HBO and Showtime Championship Boxing. During his extensive career, he has been a part of the production of seminal bouts such as Leonard vs. Hearns II, Holyfield vs. Tyson I & II, Chavez vs. Randall I & II, Corrales vs. Castillo I & II, Mayweather vs.Canelo, Tyson vs. Lewis, Joshua vs. Klitschko, Wilder vs. Fury I and the highest grossing boxing pay-per-view event in broadcast history, Mayweather vs. Pacquaio.

The NFL recognized his wealth of experience and hired him as a “Faculty Advisor” for the mentoring program of aspiring football and social media talent dubbed, the NFL Broadcast Boot Camp. He performed that role over a ten year span helping to train some of today’s media stars for various broadcast and cable networks, radio and social media podcasts.

Raymond has earned four Emmy Awards in 1988, 1992, 2002 & 2004 for “Best Live & Edited” Summer and Winter Games Olympic coverage, is a 3-time Telly Award winner and received a NATAS Award in 2005 for his production of the Seattle Seahawks Pre Season Football broadcasts. He was awarded the Olympic Golden Rings (Silver Category) in 1996 from the International Olympic Committee for his production of Weightlifting for the Atlanta Committee Of The Olympic Games.
Place of Privilege was awarded the 2025 Nobleer Media Impact Award, and will be featured in Nobleer’s Top Books of the Year.
Mr. Smaltz has also co-authored the book: Place of Privilege: Young, Black and in an Unexpected Place of Privilege), a 272-page non-fiction memoir published on July 1, 2021. Written by Mark S. Robinson and Raymond B. Smaltz, it details their experiences as some of the first young Black men to integrate New York City’s ultra-elite Dalton School in the mid-1960s.

Set against the turbulent backdrop of 1960s America, Place Of Privilege takes readers inside The Dalton School, an institution synonymous with wealth, influence, and educational privilege. At a time when Black students were rarely welcomed into the nation’s most exclusive schools, Dalton made the extraordinary decision to recruit Black boys into its community. For these students, entering Dalton meant stepping into an unfamiliar world—one without a roadmap, a support system, or established rules of engagement.
What followed was more than a story of integration. It was a transformative exchange: Dalton changed their lives, and their presence helped change Dalton. Drawing from their own experiences and years of research, Robinson and Smaltz uncover the personal stories, family histories, challenges, discoveries, and unexpected connections that shaped their journeys. Place Of Privilege is ultimately a powerful exploration of race, opportunity, identity, education, and the complicated meaning of privilege—and a compelling look at what happens when young, Black students find themselves in an unexpected place of privilege.
